AdSense may be one of the fastest and easiest ways to monetize traffic to your web site whether you have products or services for sale or you simply provide free content to your visitors. Simply stated, Google AdSense enables website operators to place some code on their site that connects to Google’s ad server content database and pulls keyword-relevant advertising onto the web pages. The webmaster gets paid a percentage of the fee that Google receives from the advertiser every time a visitor clicks on an ad. There is no charge for the webmaster to participate in AdSense. All costs are covered by the advertiser who participates in the AdSense sister program called AdWords.

Google’s sends out digital “robots” which use proprietary algorithms to parse the host web page and analyze the content in an effort to determine what keywords are relevant. It reports its findings back to Google’s ad server which then serves ads matching those keywords. Given that the entire process is automated, the “ad robots” do a pretty good job of getting the advertising content right most of the time.

The History of Google AdSense Google AdSense has its roots in the old “Google Content-Targeted Advertising” program which they introduced back in March of 2003. Although this program was similar in concept to AdSense, there was no automated way of participating. Each webmaster negotiated a deal directly with Google, and websites that served less than 20 million page views per month were not welcome to participate.

As Google grew, they began to see how much money they were leaving on the table by excluding the smaller sites, which greatly outnumbered the sites serving over 20 million hits that were willing to serve other people’s ads. Their answer to that problem was AdSense which has no minimum traffic requirements and is open to all sites meeting Google’s content and decency requirements.

How much can you make running Google AdSense? The answer to that question depends upon three factors:

1. How much traffic your site draws
2. How many visitors click on your ads
3. How much those ads pay per generated click.

With some ads paying as much as $5 or more, it’s possible that you can generate a serious income with AdSense.

There are relatively well documented cases of some people earning as much as $500 per DAY and more. Numbers like that are rare exceptions however. Even so, there is no reason why you can’t earn somewhere around $1,000 per month, or more, once you get the hang of it.

The dictionary definition of spam is unsolicited bulk email (UBE) or unsolicited commercial email (UCE).

Unsolicited Email is email which has not been requested like a sales enquiry.

Spam is not a valid means of doing business because it has many negative consequences for the internet. For one thing, it clogs the mail servers, making all email slow and burdening the ISP besides raising the cost and lowering the effectiveness of legitimate advertising. Spam also seems to be one of the major ways to promote scams online. More often then not, spam is likely to be fraudulent and misleading to say the least. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has recently published what it considers to be the 12 most likely spam scam emails and has dubbed them as "the dirty dozen". How to I avoid spam?

# As already discussed in the tips page, the best ways are; Keep your personal email secret. Do not use this email to apply for newsletters, opt in mails etc. Also avoid entering contests, since you'd possibly win a mailbox of spam! Try setting up a free email account and give this email address to anyone you don't absolutely trust with your personal information.
# Avoid opening spam email since opening it will only confirm the address exists and will only get you more spam!
# Never reply to spam (not even to unsubscribe) since again this will only confirm the address exists.
# Never buy anything advertised by spam since this will only serve as encouragement to the spammers, plus they only need the tiniest of response to be profitable! Remember, if you buy from a company that spams, you encourage them to spam more.
# Do not post your email address in any chat rooms, forums, instant message services, free for all pages (FFA), online bulletin boards. or newsgroups. Spammers use special programs which harvest these emails and use them to build spam lists. Once your email address has been caught in this way, you'll never get off the spammers' lists.
# Finally do not be a spammer yourself. Remember that merely forwarding chain letters can be regarded as spam plus spammers collect email addresses from chain letters!

What do I do with spam?

Simple. Ignore it, delete it or fight it and REPORT IT. You can start by reporting it to your own email company. Then think of going a step further and report it to the Federal Trade Commission. Just send a copy of the unwanted or deceptive spam to spam@uce.gov. The FTC uses the unsolicited bulk emails stored in this database to pursue law enforcement actions against people who send deceptive spam email.
You can also consider investing in spam filters that reside on your own computer and perform spam filtering as you receive it. The filters reject spam with obvious catchphrases that is utilised by spammers.

Research each company well, checking the whois details as explained in the tips page, and always ask for a few references you can call. Call each person and ask about their experiences with the company. Avoid PTR scams by checking out our list of paying PTR programs.

Better Business Bureau - file an online complaint against any company or charity that has treated you unfairly. The site also provides a national database of reliability reports. A positive report doesn't mean the company is definately a legitimate one, but on the other hand, companies with negative reports should be avoided.

Rip Off Report - file a report about any fraud or rip off scam you have come across. The report you file will be placed online for the world to see!

The National Fraud Information Center - this site is US based and is specialised in dealing with most kinds of internet and telemarketing frauds/scams.

Fraud Watch International - seeks to reduce the incidence of Internet fraud by educating consumers, shutting down fraudulent and scam sites and prosecuting frauders.

Federal Trade Commission - allows you to file a complaint about a particular company or organization, using a secure complaint form. Although the FTC does not resolve individual consumer problems, the complaint helps in fraud investigation, and can lead to law enforcement action.

ScamWatch - an Australia based site that covers all sorts of scams from financial and investment scams such as pyramid schemes to miracle cures and instant weight loss treatments. Scamwatch keeps a look out for new scams, rorts and rip offs and provides the locals places to report it.
